Factorio needs no mod or launch option for console commands. The same box is used for chat and commands, and anything that starts with a slash is run as a command.
There are three kinds: normal commands that are safe for achievements, multiplayer admin commands, and script or cheat commands that disable achievements for the save. This page covers all three, plus how it works on a dedicated server.
How to open the console in Factorio
- Load a game (single player or multiplayer).
- Press the grave key, the ` key left of 1 and above Tab.
- Type a command starting with / and press Enter.
- If the key does not work on your keyboard layout, rebind it in Settings, Controls, Toggle chat (and Lua console).
This is the PC game. In multiplayer, admin commands need admin status. On a hosted server, the panel console is the server console and has no player attached.
How Factorio commands work
- Commands start with /. Text without a slash is chat.
- Angle brackets <> are required values and square brackets [] are optional.
- Lua commands go after /c, for example /c game.player.print(1234*5678).
- Many cheat commands use game.player, which does not exist on a server console. Use game.players["Name"] there.

How to spawn items with console commands in Factorio
There is no give command. Use Lua with the item's internal name and a count. This disables achievements for the save.
- Open the console with the grave key.
- Type /c game.player.insert{name="iron-plate", count=100} and press Enter.
- Change iron-plate to another internal item name and count to the amount you want.
Console commands on a Factorio server
On a hosted server the panel's Console tab is the server console. There is no player attached, so game.player is nil and cheats must name the player.
Use /c game.players["YourName"].insert{name="iron-plate", count=100} instead of game.player. If no admin exists, run /promote <yourname> from the server console, or add your name to the server admin list file.

Which Factorio console commands disable achievements?
