Starfield has a built-in developer console on PC. It uses the Bethesda command style, so players of Skyrim or Fallout 4 will recognise it. It is not available on Xbox.
This page lists commands that were confirmed in the guides we read. Some popular searches (skill points, XP, research, ship commands) did not have a command we could verify, and the sections below say so plainly.
How to use console commands in Starfield (PC)
- Start the game on PC and load a save (the console also opens from the main menu according to one guide).
- Press the tilde key (~), the key under Esc. On some layouts it is a different key; one guide notes the apostrophe key on a US layout with a UK/EU profile.
- The first time, a warning says certain commands disable achievements. Press E to dismiss it, then press ~ again.
- Type the command and press Enter.
- Press ~ to close the console. Typing a toggle command (like tgm) again turns it off.
Console commands are a PC feature. Most guides say Xbox Series X|S players cannot open the console. One guide suggests editing on PC and loading that save on Xbox, but we could not verify it, so treat it as unconfirmed.
How Starfield commands work
- Item and form IDs are hexadecimal. Credits are 0000000f and digipicks are 0000000a.
- player.additem <ID> <amount> adds items. player.placeatme <ID> <amount> spawns them at your feet.
- Use the help command to search for item IDs (syntax for searching is not given in our sources, so type help alone).
- Toggle commands (tgm, tcl, tdetect) turn off when entered a second time.

Starfield console commands on Xbox
Xbox Series X|S has no console command bar. Guides describe commands as a PC feature, and one says Xbox players would need official mod support. A workaround of changing a save on PC and loading it on Xbox has been suggested, but it is not confirmed.
So the answer to 'starfield console commands xbox', 'on xbox' and 'xbox series x' is: not available in the base game.
Starfield console commands for credits and money
Credits use the item ID 0000000f. Type player.additem 0000000f followed by an amount. One guide says it sets rather than adds the amount, so check your balance after the first use.
- Press ~ to open the console.
- Type player.additem 0000000f 100000.
- Press Enter and close the console.
Starfield console commands for skills, perks and skill points
Perks, skills, backgrounds and traits can be added with player.addperk and a perk ID, and removed with player.removeperk. Guides do not agree on one ID list, and IDs can differ by game version, so look the ID up with the help command in your own game.
We found no verified command for adding skill points, XP or research points. The closest verified option is player.setlevel. Skill ID, perk ID and research-specific commands are therefore not listed.
Starfield console commands and achievements
Using commands disables achievements. The game shows a warning when you open the console, and guides say nearly every command triggers it. Keep a separate save for experiments.
Starfield console commands not working
- Check you are on PC and that the console opens with ~ or your layout's equivalent key.
- Dismiss the achievements warning with E, then press ~ again.
- Check the ID and number format, for example 0000000f for credits.
- Click the target first for kill, resurrect and unlock.
- Reload a backup save if a command crashed or broke a quest.
Why Starfield console commands are not working
- Console will not open: press E on the warning first, then ~ again, or try the apostrophe key on a mismatched layout.
- Credits look wrong: one guide says the command sets the value, so enter the total you want.
- Quest broke after a command: reload a save from before tcl, tfc, tai, killall, saq or caqs.
- Nothing happens on Xbox: the console is PC-only.
